Class XII students visited Institute of Physics as part of their educational trip. They attended a session on Magnetism and visited the ION Beam Laboratory.
Students were enthused to see that the lab consists of a NEC model 9SDH-2 tandem pelletron accelerator that can deliver positive ion beams in the energy range of 1-12MeV. The maximum terminal voltage is 3MV and can be set anywhere between 0.5-3.0MV as per requirement. They also learnt that the walls of the lab are flood and earth quake resistant. Students also got to know about the mechanism of X-Ray machine and its uses.
The Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar is an autonomous research institution funded jointly by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and the Government of Odisha.
