SAIONEERS EXCEL IN SHOT PUT COMPETITION

The shot put is a track and field event involving ‘putting’ or throwing a heavy spherical object, the ‘shot’, as far as possible. The modern Summer Olympic Games have been conducting competitions in Shot put since its inception in 1896, and it is also included as an event in the World Athletics Championships. The competition for men started in 1896, and for women it began in 1948. The Shot is made up of different kinds of materials that includes iron, cast iron, solid steel, stainless steel, brass or synthetic materials like polyvinyl etc.

Students of SAI international School have been excelling in various sports including Shot put. Anshika Routray of Class IX has been creating records and making the state proud with her indomitable performance. She has been lauded with various awards and accolades from different sectors. Recently she added one more Gold to her list of medals by winning the 1st position in the Girls Shotput-Sub-Junior category in the School Athletics Championship conducted by Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS). Anshika threw a good 10.75 meters to qualify for the Athletics National level competition.

In the same event Class XI students Alisha Pani and V.Smilee bagged the Silver and Bronze medals respectively in the Girls Shotput in the School Athletics Championship. While Alisha participated in the Junior category, Smilee took part in the Senior category.

The 2-day City Championship held at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar from Oct 3 to 4 was organised by RFYS which a country-wide, multi-sport platform to inspire athletes and encourage sporting culture at School and College level.
