A virtual international collaboration was hosted by the Millennium School, Dubai on the 4th & 5th December,2023 for the Round Square schools. The theme for this collaboration, 'Global Boiling: the time to act is now!' was designed to raise responsible global citizens. The objective of this online activity was to create awareness on the Climate Change crisis among the students and that they can play a vital role in controlling climate change and its negative impact on plants and animals. The propagation was to take less from the environment and leave more for the future generations and also embrace the Round Square IDEALS of Environmentalism and Service and work towards the shared goal of environmental protection. SAIoneers from SAI International School actively participated in the Round Square Virtual 2-Day International Collaboration on "Global Boiling - The Time to Act is Now!" with 200 delegates from 16 countries.
It was a two-day event. The 1st day started with a deliberation by the Keynote Speaker Dr Ramit Debnathan Assistant Professor and Cambridge Zero Fellow at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on using large-scale public opinions and views to address global challenges like climate change and inequality. He specializes in a niche field called computational social science that aims to merge social sciences with machine learning and AI. Dr. Ramit is the director of the Cambridge Collective Intelligence and Design Group currently shaping the climate literacy program for India with Cambridge University Press & Assessment.
The students were quite impressed with the talk. This was followed by baraza sessions on topics like Climate Resilience and Adaptation, Climate Justice, Sustainable Urban planning, Climate Finance, Circular economy, Climate Change and food security and Gender and Climate.
Seven students from classes VIII to XI participated in this event with their full vigour and interest.The students who actively participated are Satwik Nanda,Shivakshi Dixit,Afiya Noorain,Ayanansh Mohanty,Mehr Seal,Unmesh Pattnaik and Aakhya Pattnaik.
The 2nd day was to collate the discussion and present it to the forum. Each Baraza group shared their ideas and reflected on their thoughts. They also constructed meaningful pledge based on their discussions and outcomes of the Baraza
Our SAIoneers made a 1-minute video which was showcased on the 2nd day which was a pre-conference task. This was a presentation on what our school does to support environmental protection and prevent climate change. It was overall a great learning experience for the students and also the teacher.
