ROLE OF MUSIC FOR RELEASING STRESS

by SAI Admin

30 May, 2018

A training programme was conducted for teachers on the “Role of Music for relieving stress”. Music is an organized combination of sound and silent moments which involves a combinations of pitch, timbre, rhythm, dynamics, tempo, texture, melody and harmony, to create an overall structure. Music has the power to affect moods, emotions, and physical well-being, irrespective of whether a person is actively listening to it or not.

Apart from simply changing the moods, it also helps us in reducing the level of stress. More than listening, playing musical instruments or singing has a faster rate of lessening the level of stress. Singing helps to shift the vibrations of our thoughts and the very cells of our body, helping in regulating the breathing process and promoting relaxation.

To start off the session, the trainer advised all the participants to do deep breathing and make their minds calm and to feel the music. He played certain notes in the harmonium and asked the participants for a feedback on how they felt after listening to it. He demonstrated musical notes in various tempos and asked the participants to repeat it. He also spoke about the importance of rhythm by playing music with variations in three notes and emphasized that as music has the ability to shift a person’s mood from bad to good, it also has the power to change mood from good to bad. It depends on what a person chooses to listen and the musical and sonic input that they expose themselves to. The trainer advised all the participants to tune in with music. At the end some of the participants sang some songs which made everyone feel and soak in the melody.
