Poetry is a medium of expression of emotions. It helps one to understand how language and vocabulary can be used to express thoughts and ideas. It is a wonderful way to build phonemic awareness in children and enhance their vocabulary and writing skills.
To encourage the students with an affinity for writing poetry, a competition was conducted for students of Class IV and V. The theme for writing poetry for students of Class IV was ‘My Favourite Things’ and for Class V students, it was ‘My Teacher’.
Creating poetry makes a person insightful, fills him or her with joy and gives a sense of concrete accomplishment. People who loves writing poetry develops a penchant for understanding larger issues in life and feel more connected with people, places and nature. Writing poetry involves a lot of cognitive skills, and accelerates the emotional and intellectual growth of a child.
