Tarun Tapan Bhuyan, a brilliant Class XI Humanities student of SAI International School, has made India proud by being selected as the only National Team Coordinator (NTC) in the Under-18 category for the prestigious Open Dialogues on Climate Change (ODCC). This initiative, affiliated with the Open Dialogues International Foundation (ODIF), Poland, aims to foster meaningful discussions on climate solutions by engaging young changemakers from across the world.
Tarun was chosen through a rigorous three-stage selection process, which assessed ecological aptitude and leadership skills. As the National Team Coordinator, he led a three-member Indian team while collaborating with three other international teams in an online format. His efforts, research, and contributions were instrumental in completing the project, making him the only NTC from India to successfully do so. His findings and insights were later presented at COP29, Azerbaijan, the largest global climate forum, in partnership with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) which was chaired by Mukhtar Babayev, Minister for Ecology & Natural Resources, Government of Azerbaijan.
Expressing his gratitude, Tarun Tapan Bhuyan said, “Being part of ODCC has been an eye-opening experience, allowing me to collaborate with global peers and contribute to meaningful climate discussions. Representing my nation on such a platform has strengthened my resolve to drive real change in environmental policies.”
The Open Dialogues on Climate Change initiative spans four continents—Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America—bringing together young environmental advocates from 52 countries. It serves as a platform for inclusive and solution-driven discussions, ensuring that youth voices play a crucial role in shaping global climate policies. Through his exemplary work, Tarun has positioned India at the forefront of youth-led climate action, showcasing the country’s commitment to sustainability and ecological responsibility.
Dr. Silpi Sahoo, Chairperson of SAI International Education Group, lauded Tarun’s achievement, stating, “At SAI International, we nurture global citizens who are not just academically proficient but also socially responsible. Tarun’s selection as India’s only NTC for ODCC is a testament to his dedication and the school’s commitment to fostering young leaders who can create a sustainable future.”
His achievement not only highlights SAI International School’s dedication to fostering global leaders but also emphasizes the power of youth-driven advocacy in addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time.
