14 August, 2020

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of United Nations and to strengthen the eight years of partnership with UNIC, a special plenary session was organised at eSAIMUN 2020 on Thursday, August 13, 2020. UN@75 intends to inspire dialogues across the world to collate diverse perspectives and creative ideas on what is needed globally to address multiple emerging risks and opportunities. The session was facilitated by Shri Rajiv Chandran, National Information Officer (and currently Officer-in-Charge), United Nations Office in India and Bhutan.

In his address to the students, Shri Chandran said that the scale and scope of today’s challenges are truly global and it needs global leadership and global partnership to tackle the problems. He inspired the students to understand their individual responsibility and the power of multilateralism to ensure human rights for all. He said that change begins with individuals.

Students from schools like Jr. & Sr. High School of Kogakuin University, Japan, St. Anthony’s Girls College, Sri Lanka, The Millennium School, Dubai, Welham Boys’ School, Derhadun, Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girl’s Public School, Jodhpur, Singapore International School, Mumbai, SAI International Residential School, Cuttack and SAI International School, spoke on four key questions ‘What kind of future do we want to create?’, ‘Are we on track?’, ‘ What action is needed to bridge the gap?’ and ‘ How can we Build Back Better?’
