Renowned musician Padma Bhushan Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt mesmerized the students and teachers of SAI International School with a wonderful performance of Raag ‘Nat Bhairav’ on Friday, February 2, 2018. He was accompanied by Tabla exponent Shri Abhishek Mishra.
Panditji played on his self created instrument ‘Mohan-Veena’ which is originally a hawaiian guitar converted into a rich classical instrument. He also discussed with the students on the importance of age old traditional music and its capacity to transform man to a better human being. He also spoke on some techniques of music like beats, tiahi, jhala.etc and advised them to feel the music with heart.
Pt. Bhatt has immensely contributed towards popularizing Indian Classical music across the globe. He is invited to prestigious music festivals and concerts across the globe. He has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, Sangeet Natak Academy awards, apart from receiving the Music Scientist award, Rashtriya Tansen Samman, Tantri Samrat, Rajasthan Ratna and global music awards (twice). He was also conferred with the Grammy award for his album “A meeting by the river’. He is one of the most expressive, versatile and admired slide players in this world.
Shri Abhishek Mishra is a well-known tabla player from the Benaras gharana and an ‘A’ grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. He began his musical journey under the tutelage of his grandfather Pt Surendra Mohan Mishra from a very tender age. He has performed in many concerts and shows all over the country and abroad as well.
The event was introduced by The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY), a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture; it is a movement with chapters in over 300 towns all over the world.
