As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the SAI Model United Nations (SAIMUN) 2024 conference proudly launched a meaningful community outreach project scheduled for July 27, 2024. This initiative, organized by SAI International School involved a delegation of 20 international participants, along with teacher coordinators and students from the Interact Club (The Rotary International Club) and Going Global Club (The International Activity Club), visiting Jeevan Jyoti Ashram—a home for 40 orphan girls. The primary goal of this project is to cultivate a spirit of community service and global citizenship among the delegates and students while raising awareness about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on environmental sustainability.
In preparation for this visit, a donation drive was initiated at the school to collect groceries and clothing to support the daily needs of the girls at Jeevan Jyoti Ashram by proactive delegation. During the visit, the delegation engaged in meaningful interactions with the orphans of the Ashram, listening to their stories and experiences to foster empathy and understanding.
A significant component of the visit will be a hands-on workshop aligned with the SDGs, concentrating on environmental issues such as global warming and recycling. Participants and the girls will collaborate to create decorative planters from recycled plastic bottles, which will be used to grow indoor plants. This activity not only highlights the importance of greenery and sustainability but also educates the girls about the environmental impacts of plastic waste. Through this valuable cultural exchange and practical environmental education, the outreach project aims to broaden perspectives and promote sustainable practices, reinforcing SAIMUN’s commitment to fostering global awareness and community engagement.
The heartfelt interactions between the international delegates and the residents of Jeevan Jyoti Ashram will foster a profound sense of connection and mutual respect. This engagement will extend beyond mere exchanges, as delegates listen to the girls' stories and experiences, creating a bond that transcends cultural and geographic boundaries. Such moments of empathy and shared understanding are invaluable, enriching both the delegates and the girls alike.
The environmental workshop, centered around crafting planters from recycled plastic bottles, will serve as a powerful, hands-on lesson in sustainability. By transforming waste into functional and decorative items, the participants will gain practical skills and insights into the importance of recycling and reducing plastic waste. This initiative will not only beautify the Ashram but also instill a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship among the girls. In this way, the outreach project will leave a lasting impact, reinforcing SAIMUN's dedication to nurturing global citizenship and advancing sustainable practices for a better future.
