Celebrating the Voices of Truth: World Press Freedom Day

by SAI Admin

03 May, 2024

World Press Freedom Day, celebrated on May 3rd each year, is a powerful reminder of the essential values of press freedom. This day holds immense relevance as it not only commemorates but also reinforces the fundamental principles that underpin a free and independent media. It serves as a compelling call to action, urging us to champion the independence of the media and to safeguard the well-being of journalists who courageously bring us the truth.

The theme for our Virtual Assembly, observed across Classes VI to VIII, was "Celebrating the voices that bring us the truth." This theme encapsulates the spirit of World Press Freedom Day, emphasizing the indispensable role that a free and impartial press plays in upholding the public's right to information and in holding those in positions of authority accountable.

During the assembly, students explored the significance of press freedom, delving into discussions about media independence, journalist safety, the right to information, and the crucial role of accountability in a democratic society. Through engaging activities, presentations, and discussions, students were encouraged to reflect on the importance of supporting and protecting the voices that uphold truth and transparency in our society.

By commemorating World Press Freedom Day through our Virtual Assembly, we not only honor the tireless efforts of journalists worldwide but also inspire the next generation to value and uphold the principles of a free press.
