1st ‘Dr. Bijaya Kumar Sahoo Memorial Lecture 2022’ with Dr. Prasant Mohapatra

SAI International conducted the first ‘Dr. Bijaya Kumar Sahoo Memorial Lecture’ on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, on his birth anniversary to commemorate the noteworthy life of the edupreneur & visionary Dr. Bijaya Kumar Sahoo. The 1st Memorial Lecture 2022 entailed though-provoking discussion on the topic “Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Future of Education’ and was remarkably delivered by Dr. Prasant Mohapatra, Vice-Chancellor, University of California, Davis who had flown down from the USA to Bhubaneswar only to be a part of the Memorial lecture at SAI International School.
An eminent academician, Dr. Mohapatra received his doctoral degree from Penn State University in 1993, an Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award in 2008 and also was the recipient of Distinguished Alumnus Award from the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, India.
Dr. Prasant Mohapatra emphasized on how the future could be an amalgamation of human intelligence with artificial intelligence. He said that is extremely relevant for students to understand the shortcomings of AI, and know the difference between the good AI & bad AI. He further added, ‘Artificial Intelligence is the practice that has the capability of transforming old methods of teaching.’ It was indeed an intriguing lecture for all the SAIoneers as they continued to listen in awe to the various perspectives brought to light by Dr. Mohapatra.
Such stimulating memorial lectures shall foster imperative discussions further on the topics of Education, a genre Late Dr. Sahoo was most emotional and dedicated towards. These lectures will provide a forum for dynamic academic debates and the exchange of innovative global ideas in the field of education. The SAIoneers were enlivened by various viewpoints discussed in the lecture. Being the birth anniversary of Late Dr. Sahoo, ‘Dr. Bijaya Kumar Sahoo Memorial Lecture’ will be inducted each year on this day as a continuation of a memorial lecture series.
