Leadership Training & Management Developing Program (MDP) by IMI, Bhubaneshwar

The ILs (Instructional Leaders), CILs (Curriculum Instructional Leaders), Deans & the HODs (Head of Department) participated in an effective management development program (MDP) being conducted at IMI, Bhubaneshwar from April 5-8, 2023. It was a highly insightful session with various luminaries & resource persons guiding the participants through hands-on leadership workshops, which focus on tangible practices to help managers, team leaders & middle management to further increase employee engagement and foster transformational change within their organizations.

Emotional intelligence: Predictor of employees’ Wellbeing & Psychological Empowerment.

The first session was on Emotional Intelligence (Ei) conducted by Prof. Bindu Chhabra who explained the faculty members about howthe role of emotional intelligence (EI) on employees’ perceived wellbeing and empowerment, as well as their performance, by measuring their quality of care. They explored how the Ei trait of Interpersonal Relationships looks at one’s ability to establish and maintain mutually satisfying relationships which are characterised by intimacy and by giving and receiving affection. It involves establishing meaningful and close relationships, hence, people with healthy relationship skills are good networkers and good team players, they develop stronger long-lasting relationships.

Self-Reflection: Developing a Risk-Taking Attitude

In this session conducted by Prof. Bindu Chhabra,the participants were given self-report measures such as the Risk-Taking Questionnaire for Risk Readiness Factors, the Reliability- Related Personality Test, the Big Five Plus One Personality Inventory, the Work-Related Behavior and Experience Pattern and the Objective Personality Battery. Results showed a positive correlation between physical risk-taking and openness, self-confidence, and self-reflection, as well as a negative correlation with social adjustment.

Fostering Socially Responsible Leaders

This session focused on enlightening the participants how socially responsible leaders, consistently strive for self-improvement and higher standards, and through their actions and words they effectively inspire others to do the same. Prof. Supriti Mishra talked about socially responsible leaders sustaining long-term commitments worthy of their attention over a lifetime or career.

The Art & Science of Effective Decision Making

This though-provoking session by Prof. Manit Mishra who spoke of how Good & quick decision-making can help one work better, manage stress, avoid burnout in management settings. He stressed on how ‘when’ a decision is made matters more than ‘what’ decision is made. Choosing quickly is a habit that one can develop and strengthen.

Managing Group Dynamics & Team Building

This workshop headed by Prof. Pratyush Banerjee brought into context how poor group dynamics can undermine the success of a project, as well as people's morale and engagement. He suggested a few tools & exercises for everyone to promote positive group dynamics. When a team has a positive dynamic, its members are nearly twice as creative as an average group

Articulating Long-Term Vision

Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion. Prof. Shirshendu Ganguli propagated this concept to the participants, orienting them about how effective strategic leaders are able to convince employees to embrace lofty ambitions and move the organization forward through effective communication. In contrast, poor strategic leaders struggle to rally their people and channel their collective energy in a positive, focused direction.

Effective Critical Thinking & Creative Problem-Solving

This session conducted by Prof. Devesh Baid focused on educating the participants about creative problem solving via the art of critical thinking. Solution oriented thinking in unforeseen circumstances helps to identify factors that influence these problems, thereby, improvising effective strategies that resolve them.
