Day 2 of SAIMUN 2025 brought a dynamic shift from discussion to direction as delegates across key committees leaned into actionable diplomacy. With young changemakers at the helm, today was not just about raising concerns; it was about shaping solutions.

UNFCCC – Forging Climate Consciousness
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) continued its deep dive into global air quality and climate justice. Japan opened the day’s General Speaker’s List with its “Air Quality Initiative Awareness Campaign,” setting the tone for solution-oriented dialogue. The press conference that followed allowed countries like Russia, China, Qatar, the USA, and France to be rigorously questioned on their national policies. The GSL resumed thereafter, as delegates critically examined emission policies and climate financing. Motions were debated around technological transfer, climate finance for developing nations, and the role in responding to environmental crises. The day concluded with intense clause drafting and bloc alignment.

UNHRC – Turning Debate into Resolution
Day 2 of the United Nations Human Rights Council witnessed a major pivot from critique to collaboration on the agenda: Persecution of Tibetan Buddhists in China. Delegates formed two major blocs—one led by China, backed by Russia and North Korea, defending sovereignty and economic development in Tibetan regions; the other by New Zealand, supported by the US, India, France, and others, calling for stronger international oversight and cultural protection. Proposed solutions included UN-led fact-finding missions, mental health aid, safe zones, and cultural preservation efforts. Moderated and unmoderated caucuses saw active clause discussions and working paper drafts, reflecting a commitment to justice and human rights.

UNICEF – Building Online Safety for Children
The UNICEF Committee remained steadfast in its pursuit of protecting children from online exploitation and cyberbullying. Continuing with the General Speaker’s List, delegates highlighted prevailing laws, awareness gaps, and the psychological toll of cyber abuse. The moderated caucus on “Possible Solutions and Implementations” yielded ideas such as digital literacy education, stronger parental control tools, international cooperation on cybercrime, and comprehensive online safety regulations. Emphasising a child-centred, multi-stakeholder approach, delegates concluded the day drafting detailed resolutions for safer digital ecosystems.

UN Women – Amplifying Afghan Voices
In a powerful session on Women’s Rights in Afghanistan, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality (UN Women) opened with a motion from Japan: “Impact of Women’s Rights Repression on Regional Security and Safety.” Countries like Tunisia and the Republic of Korea introduced practical mechanisms, including asylum pathways and monitoring frameworks. Czechia pledged £5 million in cross-border humanitarian aid and proposed solar-powered radio-based schooling. Rwanda’s motion on the role of media and women journalists passed, with their declaration that such gender apartheid is a crime against humanity receiving strong support. Nations like Panama, Spain, and Algeria echoed urgent calls for collaborative international action. The committee showcased shared determination to protect Afghan women’s rights and dignity.

ICC – Upholding Justice Amid Crisis
The International Criminal Court (ICC) committee continued its intensive discourse on War Crimes and Child Abduction in Ukraine. A moderated caucus delved into “Legal and Humanitarian Frameworks for Prosecuting War Crimes,” resulting in passionate exchanges. A landmark moment occurred when the ICC officially ruled that Argentina could extradite two Russian officials for the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children, rejecting diplomatic immunity as a defence. This bold decision served as a reminder that accountability must always trump impunity, and justice remains the cornerstone of peace.

As Day 2 closes, SAIMUN 2025 reaffirms its role as more than just a simulation—it is a livewire of global awareness, spirited debate, and powerful youth-led problem-solving. The voices of these young delegates echoed with clarity, conviction, and compassion, carving a path toward a more just, inclusive, and sustainable world.
