One of the richest parts of India’s heritage is its classical dances or the Shastriya Nritya. It is considered as the highest form of art. The country has more than eight recognized classical dances like Kathak,  Kuchipudi,  Odissi,  Kathakali,  Sattriya,  Bharatnatyam,  Manipuri and Mohiniyattam. They are traditionally regional where music and recitation in local language or Sanskrit forms an integral part.

These dances represent a unity of core ideas in a diversity of styles, costumes and expression. There are some special features about Indian Classical dance, which distinguish it from other dances of the world. The foundational treatise for classical dances of India is the Natya Shastra and is written by ancient scholar Bharata Muni.

Indian classical dance evokes national consciousness. This art form soothes and relax the minds of children and, at the same time educate them as well as stimulate their concentration and creativity. As the true objective of education is the wholesome development of human personality, these dances are immensely significant for students as it teaches discipline, improves physical fitness, helps to express one-self and teaches about the value of the rich literary and cultural heritage of India.

At SAI International School, we give equal importance to dance and music and inspire the students to take part in such competitions and events. The energetic members from Class VI to VIII of the Rhythms Club showcased a riveting classical dance performance in the morning assembly. The talented dancers displayed brilliant gestures, dynamic expressions and collaborative movements which created a rhythmic pattern and mosaic of architecture in motion.

The meaningful dance performance was fascinating as it instilled an aesthetic sense as well as the quintessential art of beauty, power & a desire to forge ties with the divinity.
