The Science Model Competition, a cherished initiative of our beloved Founder, Dr. Bijaya Kumar Sahoo, was hosted with great zeal at SAI International School. Guided by his belief that “the spirit of science is not in memorising formulas, but in questioning, experimenting, and creating solutions that can change lives,” the event provided a platform for Class XI and XII Science stream students to push boundaries, think critically, and showcase their innovative spirit.
This year’s competition witnessed an impressive range of models that combined knowledge, creativity, and real-world relevance. Students presented projects such as the Effluent Treatment Plant, TechClean, Transport innovations, and Eco Connect, alongside advanced concepts like the Nano Sat, Space Farming, and the Gene Editing Tool. Other thought-provoking exhibits included the Tesla Coil, Renewable Energy systems, Eco Track, Solar Tracker, and ADELS – Alcohol Detection and Engine Locking System. Each display reflected not just scientific knowledge but also imagination, curiosity, and a strong desire to solve pressing challenges.
The presence of an esteemed panel of judges included Dr. Namisha Sharma, Scientist, Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar; Dr. Anshuman Dixit, Senior Scientist, Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar; Dr. Khirod Chandra Patra, Scientific Officer, Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar; and Dr. Sourav Ganguly, Senior Scientist, IMMT, Bhubaneswar enriched the experience with their expert insights and encouragement. Their feedback served as both recognition and motivation for the young participants.
The competition truly reflected Dr. Sahoo’s vision of nurturing a scientific temperament at an early age, encouraging students to question, explore, and innovate fearlessly. It was a powerful reminder that every great invention begins as a small experiment in the hands of a curious learner and that today’s ideas have the potential to shape a better tomorrow.
