Powering the Future: Ishaan Mishra's Pioneering Internship at IIT Madras

by SAI Admin

16 April, 2025

Ishaan Mishra, an A Levels (Cambridge) student of SAI International School, recently concluded a prestigious research internship at the Battery Analysis and Testing (BAT) Lab of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. His innovative work centered around mechano-electrochemical energy harvesters—cutting-edge devices that transform human motion into electricity, with promising applications in wearable technology.

As part of the core research team, Ishaan was instrumental in the design and fabrication of a lithium-ion-based energy harvester, which involved assembling a bilayer aluminum electrode with LiPF₆ electrolyte in a controlled inert environment. To simulate real-world motion, he engineered a frequency-controlled servo motor testing system, integrating Arduino hardware with C++ software—demonstrating his skill in both electronics and programming.

Beyond experimentation, Ishaan also contributed to scholarly work by co-authoring a comprehensive literature review, analyzing global advancements and challenges in the field of energy harvesting. His experience not only showcased his academic brilliance and technical expertise but also laid a strong foundation for a future career in scientific research and innovation.

"This internship was more than just a project—it was a journey of exploration. The foundation laid by SAI International, especially in encouraging curiosity and independent thinking, helped me step into the lab with confidence. I’m grateful for the constant support that made this experience both meaningful and transformative.", reflected Ishaan.

"At SAI International, we strive to ignite a spark of innovation and inquiry in every child. Ishaan’s journey is a shining example of what happens when passion meets purpose. We are immensely proud of his achievements and remain committed to nurturing scientific temper and global competence among our learners.", said Dr. Silpi Sahoo, Chairperson, SAI International Education Group.
