“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” – Benjamin Franklin

SAI International conducted a First-Aid & Fire Training Session for about 18 bus marshals on Saturday, June 18, 2022 to reinforce safety standards adhered by the school for the overall security of students.

In the session, the marshals were made to simulate a bus with only 15 seats. There were people acting as passengers, the driver, conductor and the marshal. Together, they enacted several scenarios in which a marshal is supposed to intervene, what they can do and what they should not. The newly inducted marshals to ensure the safety of students during their commute routes in school buses, were trained in their jobs by recreating imperative scenarios where each of them was asked to extinguish fire and take the required remedial measures to rectify a critical situation in real life. Each of these marshals are to accompany the students in every school bus while they travel to and fro amidst the school and their homes.

The marshals also attended a First-Aid Training Session where they were enlightened on vital information as to learning about how to examine a casualty, use a defibrillator, familiarize yourself with basic life support and learn how to control bleeding and trauma. These provide the skills to overcome a potentially threatening situation long enough for medically trained individuals to arrive on scene. The three Cs of first aid: check, call & care, were introduced to the marshals to provide a structure for how they should act in an emergency first aid situation.
