"A Mindful Revolution: How a 14-Year-Old is Inspiring Change Through Art"
Mehr Seal, a Grade IX student of SAI International School, has emerged as one of India’s young visionaries by completing the prestigious Artivist Fellowship conducted by Young Leaders for Active Citizenship (YLAC). This six-week program, held from October 6 to November 17, 2024, empowers exceptionally talented teenagers (ages 13–18) to drive societal transformation through art and advocacy. Selected from a competitive pool of applicants across India, Mehr excelled throughout the fellowship, with her team ranking among the top three and earning her the rare and exclusive title of "Fellow of the Fellowship," a distinction awarded to only two participants nationwide.
The Artivist Fellowship focuses on critical themes such as Climate Justice, Disability Rights, and Gender Equity, guiding participants to design and implement impactful campaigns within their schools and communities. Mehr spearheaded a campaign titled “Mindful Matters: Mind Over Matter, Consuming Consciously,” which highlighted mental health and mindful consumption. Through this initiative, she demonstrated exceptional creativity, teamwork, and leadership, contributing to a meaningful dialogue on pressing social issues.
Reflecting on her experience, Mehr remarked:
"This experience has been transformative. I’ve learned how art can be a powerful medium to engage communities and address critical issues. With the constant support of my school and mentors, I am determined to continue advocating for change and inspiring others to take action.” Mehr extended the reach of her campaign by conducting workshops at SAI International School, encouraging her peers to adopt mindful practices and prioritize mental well-being.
Dr. Silpi Sahoo, Chairperson of SAI International, lauded Mehr’s achievements and highlighted the importance of addressing mental health in education: "Mehr’s work exemplifies the impact of innovative advocacy and creativity. Her campaign not only brings attention to the importance of mental well-being but also encourages thoughtful consumption, fostering a healthier and more empathetic community. We are proud to see her emerge as a changemaker and look forward to her continued success.”
Through the fellowship, Mehr gained invaluable skills in campaign design, advocacy, and effective communication, laying a foundation for future endeavors. Her commitment to driving meaningful change sets an inspiring example for young minds across the nation.
SAI International School commends Mehr Seal for her outstanding achievements and looks forward to her future endeavors. Her creativity, intellectual rigor, and commitment to social responsibility embody the values of a true SAIoneer.
